Mini Review
I love games like this, quick simple games that stick in your memory a lot longer than most AAA titles. Firstly, the visuals are great, the constant rain and blatant overindulgence of the grey pallet shouldn't make for a good looking game, but it does. There are great little touches, like the odd coloured item in a sea of grey, reminiscent of Schindler's List. When the camera pans into a top down view, there is so much detail in the reflections from the water, you just have to stop and admire the depth.
As for the gameplay, there isn't much to it, but there doesn't need to be. Others might disagree, arguing that gameplay is king, but for an arty game with emotional depth, it's more about the experience. I think this why neither, the protagonists nor the antagonist speak, so you can slot yourself right in the middle of the game. Everyone will take away something different from the game.

The memories can't be collected until you have played through the game once. Then you can just use chapter/checkpoint select, find the collectible and quit back out. A few quick points:
01 - Chapter 01 - Checkpoint 01
Play the game until you come to the first alley way, go through it and it's at the top of the stairs on the left as you emerge.
02 - Chapter 01 - Checkpoint 03
When you start, you'll be next to a dog, run past it to the alley, like you normally would. Once it leaves, go back out into the rain. You'll see a long staircase in front of you, the memory is at the top, just down a little alley way.
03 - Chapter 01 - Checkpoint 04
Make the dogs destroy the scaffold as usual, then jump up, but don't go up the stairs. Go to the right slightly and walk towards the screen. Then head left and down the stairs, the memory is at the bottom.
04 - Chapter 02 - Checkpoint 01
From the start, once you have evaded the Unknown and dropped down, head left, it's at the end.
05 - Chapter 02 - Checkpoint 02
Play the checkpoint as normal, save the girl, discover the muddy water and pass the lone dog. You'll come to some crates that you're supposed to climb to continue, don't, head right a little more. There will be a crawl space, go through it to collect the memory.
06 - Chapter 02 - Checkpoint 04
Jump in the water on the right, jump back out and head further right, and through the church gate. Don't enter the church though, bear right through the bushes and left at the plant pot. It's behind the red flower.
07 - Chapter 03 - Checkpoint 01
Follow the lit path as usual, jump over filing cabinets. Pass the first friendly fiend, and the memory is just left of the second fiend. Next to the building underneath the wall light.
08 - Chapter 03 - Checkpoint 03
Play as normal, cross the gangway, down the ladder, and jump the gap to where the girl was standing. Carry on, going through the crawl space, eventually you'll get to the first set of lockers. The memory is in the one on the left.
09 - Chapter 03 - Checkpoint 04
Play as normal, lift the lever, pass the dogs, jump up and pull the second lever. Then carry on until you get to the room with the containers in it, and where you aren't visible. Jump up the first, then across to the second, but don't go outside. Go right, jump up the pile of planks, then up again and one final time onto the ledge. The memory is on the right.
10 - Chapter 04 - Checkpoint 02
From the starting point, head to the car north of your position. It's next to it.
11 - Chapter 04 - Checkpoint 03
Follow the girl until you get to the locked gate. Then, go to where the key is. The key is in the right locker, the memory is in the one on the left.
12 - Chapter 04 - Checkpoint 05
Follow the girl, then go through the bus sequence. Once safely on the building, don't go right, go left to where the girl jumped of the bus. There memory is there.
13 - Chapter 05 - Checkpoint 03
Go through the motions of the chapter, lift the girl up, climb the ladder, and go outside. Use the angry fiend to destroy the gate, then go inside to where the girl is, and head down the stairs. It's next to them, on the left.
14 - Chapter 05 - Checkpoint 03
From the last one, head back outside, passing the unconscious fiend, and over the wall on the right. Go through the car sequence. When that's done carry on as normal, but don't go up the stairs, go behind them. It's next to the tree.
15 - Chapter 05 - Checkpoint 05
Go through the sewer as normal. Past the single dog, past the three invisible dogs, and up the ladder. Once you cross the little bridge, head towards the three barrels in the corner and the memory will appear.
16 - Chapter 06 - Checkpoint 01
When the checkpoint starts head as if you're going into the circus, but bear right, past the Fantasmagoria sign, and beyond, right to the end. The memory is next to a red and white striped barrier.
17 - Chapter 06 - Checkpoint 03
This time head away from the circus, towards the screen. Then follow the waterfront all the way to the left. The memory will appear before your very eyes.
18 - Chapter 06 - Checkpoint 03
From the last memory, carry on as normal, making your way into the girl's house. When you regain control, don't go down the stairs, head north into the bathroom. The memory is in there.
19 - Chapter 07 - Checkpoint 01
Play the chapter as normal, head up past the tree root, past the first set of caged animals, and begin crossing the bridge. About halfway across, look for the tree roots, jump up the little ledge, the memory is in between the two roots.
20 - Chapter 07 - Checkpoint 01
From the first one, carry on for a while, past the large caged fiends. Eventually, you'll get to two sets of stairs. Take the ones on the left, the memory is on the flat area on the top.
21 - Chapter 07 - Checkpoint 03
Play the checkpoint as normal, climbing up, pass the bookcases and so on. Just after that you need to make a large jump, once you do the camera will switch and there will be a dry area on your left, but in front of you, you'll see a narrow ledge. Run along it and make another long jump. Drop down, you'll see a ledge with a fence surrounding it, jump to it and the memory will appear. The area is actually above the starting point for the chapter.
22 - Chapter 08 - Checkpoint 01
From the start, go down the stairs, but don't go right, go left. Pass the unknown, go up the stairs, you essentially want to be on the other side of the hole you created. It's in front a bicycle.
23 - Chapter 08 - Checkpoint 01
From the previous memory, go the correct way, meeting up the girl. Head right under the portcullis and over the bridge. Don't go up the stairs on the right, go past them, the memory is next to a stop sign.
24 - Chapter 08 - Checkpoint 05
Go to the large gate with the light pouring through. When the Unknown turns up, open the first door, pick the girl up when she gets thrown and open the second door once you've done that. Don't grab the Unknown's ankles, instead go through the door alone. The memory is in the top left corner, you can't see it, the first door is blocking your view, but trust me it's there.
- Once you pick up a memory, it autosaves, allowing you to quit to main menu straight away.
- Memories don't appear until you are close to them.
- You can see which memories you are missing from the Collection option in the main menu.

There is nothing tricky in this first chapter. To start with just follow the path, it's a linear game, so you'll know where to go.
You'll come to some of the dog creatures, they are just simple enemies, so stick to the dry areas, watch their paths and go when it's safe. You'll eventually come to a dog that you need to distract, you do this by running (square) through a puddle on the right, then head to the dry area and walk round him.
Next, you'll come to a large area with a few dogs, head to the top of the screen, where there is a dry area, head round, again watching the dog's paths and going when it's safe, and jump over the wall on the right, the same way the girl went.
When you get to the scaffolding with a cart underneath, you need to head left and get the attention of the dog, run back, under the scaffold and out the other side. The dog will crash into it, damaging it slightly. Head left again, and down the alley to find another dog. Run all the way back again, until he crashes into the scaffold, freeing it up for you to climb.

You'll come across the girl cornered by two dogs, jump up and over the side where she is, open the gate to free her, and then shut it to continue following her. You'll then learn about muddy puddles and that you have to avoid them, do so and carry on.
The Unknown will turn up again, play the gramophone to get his attention, now run in the direction he came from. Jump down the stairs, run some more, until you need to crawl through a fence and jump into a bath of water.
Now enter the church, open the door on the left, climb the bookcase, and jump out the window. Re-enter the church, pass the organ, enter the door on the right and the Unknown will show up again. Leave the key for now, exit the room you're in, walk around the alter and enter the room with organ in. Play the organ and hide next to it in the small gap, wait for the Unknown to jump on the window sill, exit the room and get the key from the original room. Now simply unlock the door the girl went in, close it behind you and jump out the window into the graveyard. Cross the graveyard and crawl through the gap.

Wait until the dog turns, walk under the large fiend, it will cover you from the rain. Make your way along staying under the large fiends as you go, jump over the wall at the end.
Oh dear, the Unknown is back, walk away from him (or her), climb the scaffold, going back and forth to do so, climb the two ladders and enter the factory. Walk away from the Unknown again, climb up and over, follow the path, he's still behind you at this point. When you come to a crate blocking a door, push it out the way, open and enter the door, head left, push the next crate up to the shelves, climb up and leave the factory.
Follow the path into the large area, go down the steps, descend the ladder and do a running jump to get to where the girl was last seen. Cross the gap, finally the girl sees you. Go through the crawl space, then follow the path in the direction the girl went, using the lockers for cover from the rain as you go. The dogs can't see you when you enter a locker, so no need to shut the door, some of them may need opening though.

Up and over when you get to the end, dammit she's off again. Jump up, use the lever at the top to move the bridge again, jump to it and climb up to the walkway. Jump outside again, heading towards the lit area, and climb the stairs.
Guess who's back again? Run over to where the trolley is, pulling it out of the way so the girl can pass. The Unknown will now shift his focus to you, run towards the lockers on the right, hide in the only one that has a roof (the second one) and wait there. The unknown will open the lockers, realise you're not there and chase the girl again. Follow them, jumping across to where the Unknown is and quickly up again into cover. He'll leave and the girl will help you for once. Jump up the crate she drops down for you, go out the window, descend the stairs, over the ramp, over the wall.

Start by hopping over the planks, the Unknown will show up again, Jump over the scaffold on the right and run. At the dead end, an invisible friend will drop a wooden sheet over the corner of the wall next to the gate, creating shelter. Wait there, while the girl distracts the Unknown by dropping another sheet of wood. Go through the gate, sticking to the dry area and wait at the end. The girl will knock over a bin getting the Unknown's attention, walk over to the ladder and climb up and walk over the aforementioned wooden sheet. Jump down into the fenced of area, and crawl through the gap. Finally you get to meet her face to face. The Two and the Town trophy will unlock here.
After the cutscene, you'll follow the girl for quite a while, until you get to a locked gate. Go back into the alley, and take the northern path, the key for the gate is in a locker at the back of this area. Take the key back and unlock the gate. Go through the gate and when the dogs show up, hide under the awning. From there jump up the blue dumpster and over the wall when safe to do so. Pick up the doll, walk all the way to the right with it, distracting the dogs so the girl can pass, walk back left to where you found the doll and drop it, to the far right again and jump over the wall. Push the trolley together, jump up, give the girl a leg up and she'll drop a ladder for you.
Follow the girl again to the next puzzle. Crawl through the gap next to the bottom of the stairs, head south and push the cupboard so the girl can jump down. Push the souvenir cart together and jump up.
Follow the girl once again to a new enemy, critters. Climb the ladder, jump the gap in the scaffolding, then follow it round and drop down into the dry alley. Wait for the girl, then head across the bridge to the south, a dog will show up, quickly run back to the dry alley. Hmm, these critters might come in handy. Head to where the dog came from, carry on for a while and walk round the back of the truck.
Jump over the pile of planks, you'll see some more critters, jump up the building from the north, lift the girl again when needed. She will conveniently find another doll and drop it down, distracting the critters. Go back the way you came and go through the gate, making sure to shut it once through. Pick up the doll, head to the left, drop the doll at the edge of the dry area, now go back to the right and push the cart so the girl can drop down. Give her another lift when prompted, she'll open the gate.
Follow her, into more danger of course. Quickly lift her up the back of the bus and climb the ladder she drops down for you. A big angry creature will show up now, he'll start head butting the bus. Move to the front of the bus, and get ready to jump off it when it gets near the end of the building, phew close one. Head around the building, jump down and follow the girl.
Chapter four done.
Start by hopping over the planks, the Unknown will show up again, Jump over the scaffold on the right and run. At the dead end, an invisible friend will drop a wooden sheet over the corner of the wall next to the gate, creating shelter. Wait there, while the girl distracts the Unknown by dropping another sheet of wood. Go through the gate, sticking to the dry area and wait at the end. The girl will knock over a bin getting the Unknown's attention, walk over to the ladder and climb up and walk over the aforementioned wooden sheet. Jump down into the fenced of area, and crawl through the gap. Finally you get to meet her face to face. The Two and the Town trophy will unlock here.
After the cutscene, you'll follow the girl for quite a while, until you get to a locked gate. Go back into the alley, and take the northern path, the key for the gate is in a locker at the back of this area. Take the key back and unlock the gate. Go through the gate and when the dogs show up, hide under the awning. From there jump up the blue dumpster and over the wall when safe to do so. Pick up the doll, walk all the way to the right with it, distracting the dogs so the girl can pass, walk back left to where you found the doll and drop it, to the far right again and jump over the wall. Push the trolley together, jump up, give the girl a leg up and she'll drop a ladder for you.
Follow the girl again to the next puzzle. Crawl through the gap next to the bottom of the stairs, head south and push the cupboard so the girl can jump down. Push the souvenir cart together and jump up.

Start by following the girl to the waterfront. Hmm, no bridge. Walk right, past the first set of trapped critters, heading for the second set where the dog is. Open the grate to let the critters out, they'll so what they do best and leave.
Carry on down the waterfront, just past the third set of critters, leave the gramophone for now, you'll need to lift the girl up. She'll drop a wooden sheet down, so you can safely let the critters out, do so, then use the gramophone to get the dogs attention. Once he's dealt with meet up with the girl again.
Haven't dealt with this guy for a while, the Unknown will show up. No need to run, simply walk through the undercover section and crawl through the gap at the end. Lift the girl up, climb the ladder, hmm, separated again. Head through the hole in the wall, bear right, wash yourself in the water and climb up.
You need to open the gate to let the girl out. But how? Head right, oh, that's how. Get the beast to follow you back to the girl's gate, disappear in the dry section and climb the planks. The creature will knock himself unconscious. Head right and lift the girl up, oh dear, he's awake again. You need to be fairly quick here. Once the beast starts ramming the car, follow him and duck through the gap. Let the critters out of their prison, open the gate at the end and lure the critters towards it by standing in the rain, then hide. Many critters make light work.

Yay, the circus is in town, head past it, oh, towards the well lit house. Of course, the Unknown is there to meet you. Give the girl a hand when prompted, then run, you'll get to an undercover noticeboard and the Unknown will start chasing the girl. Head into the circus.
Walk over to where the Unknown is and climb down the ladder. Push the cart on the right, the girl will keep the Unknown occupied while you walk round and climb the tall ladder. Climb the next ladder also, walk around the rigging and drop the ladder for the girl. Now to trap the Unknown. Head left, activating the two levers as you go, then boost the girl up so she can activate the last one. Damn, he walked away. Head all the way back down, the way you came. Bear right, once you've descended the tall ladder, and into the central ring. Use the music box, the Unknown will come rushing in, you can just casually walk past him, and go and collect the doll. Once you've picked it up, run back into the centre ring and drop the doll under the cage. The Unknown is finally trapped.
Follow the girl back to the lit house. Time for a little B & E, lift the girl up, the same place you did when the Unknown first showed up. Really, he's back again. When you regain control, head downstairs and out the house. Now things are getting a bit weird.

You're all alone now. Head to the right, drop down and keep heading right. Climb the stairs under the tree roots, ignore the next staircase and bear left, past the cages. Go across the long bridge, past the increasingly larger cages. Keep right and go up the longer set of stairs up onto the roof. Jump the gap on the right.
Hey, everybody's back. Run down the path, jump the two gaps as you go, ignore the stairs and go down the ladder. Head right once more, through the tree roots, and up the narrow staircase. Ascend the two giant sets of stairs, and meet up with your friend.
Next, do some running and jumping across the bridges, head up the small set of stairs, jump up, then across the gap to where the bookcases are. Up another two staircases, hop up on the ledge and jump the large gap. A little more climbing and across the bridge. Quickly, push the block to protect the girl, then drag it backwards. Now quick as a flash drop down and pull the next block, when the girl is through push it back again. Climb the ladder behind you.
Navigate the linear path for a while, jumping and climbing as you go. Eventually the Unknown will return. Push the precariously placed block to protect the girl, now he's after you, run. Jump off the stairs, and go into the dry area. The best place to wait is the top left corner of the dry area, next to the puddle. The unknown will come to that corner, but the girl will push the block off from above just in time. Walk over to it, climb over and keep running. Go around the corner, stand underneath the ladder and wait for the girl to drop it down. When she does climb it, run to the block and with a joint effort, crush the Unknown.

To start of with tail the girl through the night streets. You'll come to a ladder, you need to go down. Seriously, this guy again, he's more persistent than the T-1000. Stick to the dry areas, go for the opening you need to crawl through, when it's safe. Run across the wooden bridge and watch the Unknown disappear again.
Give the girl a boost up back near the crawl space, then climb up yourself. Now you have to traverse many stairs, eventually you'll get to an alley way, go through it. Yet more stairs, you'll get to a playground, and have to go up, yep, you guess it, more stairs. Follow the linear path until you have to jump down two large drops, head right to deal with more stairs and ledges.
You'll get to a vertical climbing section, it's quite self explanatory where you need to go. When you reach the summit, guess who shows up? Follow him as he chases the girl, there will be a block you need to push. The girl needs your help, quickly jump down to where the unknown is, stick to the dry areas, and you can walk right past him without a problem, when you get to girl, push another block.
Ascend some more stairs, you'll get chased, head towards the screen, when you jump down the drop, don't run forward, step back into the dry area. When the Unknown walks away, follow him, you can walk straight past him, he won't notice you. Carry on, climbing as you go, eventually you'll get to a big set of double doors with light pouring through them. The Unknown will come along and shut one, we can't have that, go and open the other one. When the girl is thrown back, you need to go and pick her up, you can't see her, as it has stop raining. She is just past the manhole cover. Once you have helped her up, walk over to the other door and open it. Now to finish him, grab his ankles and drag him into the light, closing the doors behind you. He'll have one last push, but just keep shutting the doors. That's all folks. Enjoy the ending.
